I only recently read "Essential Asatru". I find it to be practical. Most of my reading mostly concerns the Runes. On a lark I bought "Taking Up the Runes" last month (also by Diana Paxson.) She has some interesting ideas of her own that lend an interesting perspective concerning the Runes. I've been studying them for 18 years and I will always find something new and interesting for them to teach me. The books that have had the most impact on me? "Futhark-A handbook of Rune Magic" by Edred Thorsson and "The Sagas of the Icelanders". Oddly enough... The later book contains Egil's Saga.
