Latest Activity: Jan 30's premier Northern Tradition Pagan / Shaman / Mystic / Occult group is dedicated to any who wish to learn about more than the common Norse / Germanic / Saxon Heathen information. We accept all who come with open minds and curiosity.

We wish to embody the essence of Hospitality and welcome those from all ways.

Wesaþ Ge Hale,
Your Humble Hosts: Kane (American/ Iron Woods Wizard) and Lykathea (Eclectic Odian Occultist)

What is the Northern Tradition?

I like to think that it is not a reconstruction, but a continuance of the practices of the Nordic, Celtic, Pictish, Scottish, Germanic, Slavic, Ainu and other Northern Arctic and sub arctic faiths and practices. Reconstruction is a part, but only so that we may know where to continue and forge ahead with the development of our religions. We choose to listen to the gods more and listen less from what books and history say. We do not hold biases from the literature of the past as it is nearly impossible to know if there was historical tampering or trespasses made by christian colonization of those lands. First hand knowledge is trusted more, and what is spoken by those who never stopped is always worth more than the second hand accounts.

Hi, I'm new to the group, I've been a follower of the asa-vana for years and at last there's a group I can learn something from.

It doesn't have to be runes that are expressed when the galder is sung/yelled, in my experience and practise it's more often not so.

Tunrida  -  Thanks for your thoughts!

I understand that the Runes are not a "Shamanic" system though I have experienced what could be a shamanic state through Galdr.

Are there others who practice both Seithr and Runes?

...and no, rune magic is not "shamanic", no form of trance state is needed to work with them, just a lot of knowledge, experience and talent.

Actually, the runes were not the "property" of just the Asar, other races had their own rune masters just as the Asar had Oden.

Hail All! - I am called Hildulf/BattleWolf and I'm new to this site. I'm looking forward to getting to know some new friends. I would think all would agree that the more we learn, the more we find there is to learn!

I am curious about how shamanism is equated with the Northern Tradition from your understanding? I have understood it as Seithr which Othinn learned from Freya. This was the older Vanir form of Shamanic Earth Mysteries. Did Freya then learn Othinn's Rune Magik being The Aesir form of Shamanic/Magical Practice? I have found the two to be a powerful combination balancing the intellectual and emotional aspects of Shamanic Practice. any thoughts?  -  Live Hard Die Well!

Hello! I didn't know this group was here and so I created my own group dedicated to my beloved Angrboda (called Angrboda's Cave : It's a bit lonely over there though right now :(.

I need to read more of the threads here before I post but I'm working on it :).

Thank you... I wish I still had it though. This was the tiny plot we had on the central coast of California, about 100 miles north of Santa Barbara. We moved to Portland, Oregon so it is raining A LOT! But that keeps it green here. This year I have a whole front and a back to plant to my hearts' content...on a tiny budget but I can't wait to get dirt under my nails!!!
