Music Magic in Practise

This post is also on my personal blog at http://bardsgrove.motd.org -- this is not a commercial interest blog, I just like to have my own site for blogging.

I recently received some great questions regarding magic and mysticism in music. It sparked such thought that I had to write this rather long article.

Questions from the original poster:

1. what is the purpose of scales? I know based on almost a days worth…

The first Oath, in formal declaration of my dedication to the path that has called to myself.

I, Samuel Lawson, in confession before any who read this statement, declare myself to be a Pagan, a seeker of the Old Ways, a worshipper of the Elder Gods who watched over and revealed themselves to my forebears.

With this Holy Oath I set my foot upon the path, the Druid's Way, and I vow to make my dedication plain.

I most solemnly and sincerely promise and swear to seek virtue in my life, to do right by my kin, my friends, and my community, I vow to make my Paganism real, by…

Confessions I.

What is my world view?

Here is where I think I am on the following subjects.

Morality: Yes, it exists, but there are different kinds - that which is local, and that which is universal. Local morality includes things like proselytising - Christians believe it is orthodox to preach their religion everywhere to everyone, and that it is a moral imperative. There are those who do consider this, to varying degrees, annoying,…

Evil and Kindness

I posted this in a blog discussion, and decided that I would like to have it in my own blog as well...

Evil is a tricky thing. It very often starts out as something the one thinks is good. For example, Power in and of itself is a good thing. If you have power, you can get things done; have more potential to accomplish good things. In 1830, somebody probably thought they were using their power to do good by setting aside land for various indigenous Native American nations so that there…

Tribalism, the good and the bad

Without religion we would still have war.

Atheists and Humanists like to rant about Faith and Religion being the cause of the woes of humanity. I typically give some manner of retort, but I have come to realise that some of what they are saying is true, but the noun is incorrect. For example, a quote from the late Christopher Hitchens, whom I respect but with whom I of course do not agree entirely:

"Faith is the surrender of the mind; It's the surrender of reason, it's the…

The Willow Dream

I had a very special dream that involves the willow. I was in a traditional-ish classroom, as student sitting at a desk amongst rows and columns of others. After some time listening to someone lecture (likely myself doing something I'm not really interested in), I looked around. The classroom was outside, the ground was level and green, a brook wound its way through a wood and to my right and around behind the meadow in which the class was situated. To the left stood denser wood, but there…

I posted a draft of this in the Bardic Order of Music Magick group. I have decided to continue it here.
