Cooking: An outside oven design because I want you to have a hot meal.

Ovens are great. They bake the bread, roast the meat, simmer the veggies, all round a useful and handy kitchen tool.

What would you do if your oven doesn't work and you can not replace it? What if the powers out or your gas supply cut off? What if you find yourself out of doors for a period of time? Some thing to think about for every one.

With a few simply acquired things you can make your own oven, and it works. Here's what you need:

1.) A cardboard box. ( The one's from the liquor store that held a dozen bottles work very well, and they're free. )

2.) A roll of aluminum foil. ( You may have to buy this. I suggest the dollar store, because it'll probably be a dollar there. Hee hee, makes sense! )

3.) Non toxic glue. ( Read the label, again well sourced at the dollar store. )

4.) If you can't afford the glue because you've spent your dollar on aluminum foil then you can use sharp slivers of stick instead.

5.) Tin cans, half a dozen of them.

6.) 10 sturdy green twigs. Cut 4 of them at 24 inches ( 60 cm. )

Okay, take all this stuff and do the following. Empty the box of it's spacers and cut the top flaps off. Cut the face of one side open, about three or four inches from each side but leave the edge intact where it intersects with the bottom of the box. Glue or pin with sharpened wood slivers the aluminum foil over the interior of the box, the flap you've made, and the exterior. Take the 24 inch 4 stout green twigs and stick them into the corners of the box, like legs. Take the other six and along the opening, about an inch down from the top, insert them length wise in a row into the box, spaced evenly; about an inch or two apart. Turn it upside down. It's now an oven. Fill one can up with dry twigs, small chunks of wood, paper and ignite it. Cut the bottoms out of the other cans and sit them together as a chimney at the back of the compartment. You'll need to cut a small hole to allow the can through the back of the oven.

Works great, costs very little and it's reusable too. No reason you shouldn't have a hot meal no matter how things are going else wise.

Ok RB you lost at this point.

Could you explain a bit more.

I see what you mean. You want to use the other six branches as your grill. So when the open part of the box is facing up you'll take those branches and poke them into the box, from one side to the other - making a rack. That way, when you turn the box over you have a rack to put the food on that you want to cook. It has space between each branch to allow the heat to contact the item cooking.

As to the cans, you want to build up fire in them and you'll need to feed more wood into the cans as you cook. To keep your food from being sooted up with smoke the additional cans can be fitted together to make a tube, or chimney, and rested over the back half of the cans that have the fire going in them. By routing this makeshift chimney up the back of the oven and out through the top you're able to capture more heat before it vents.

I would love to be able to do a video of this, it's so easy to show how instead of describe it, but I hope I've cleared this up a bit.
