I love writing. I love writing journals, I love it when the words flow, I love how it feels to read it later, I love when I find something really old that I've written and I get to rediscover a story.

I have another weird thing...

I love to watch other people write, especially on an overhead projector. I love watching people write by hand. Not necessarily fancy writing or poetry, no preference for print or cursive, nor for any particular language. The utensil used doesn't matter either.

In a classroom today, I realized my favorite part about taking notes was watching someone write on the overhead projector. There is something fluid and inherently magical about the motion of the hand and the streaks of markers on board or pen to paper, even in Math classes. I like watching the ink spread on the paper, or colored marker on the white boards. I love the postures and expressions of people as they write by hand; their eyes glazed over in thought or brow furrowed, or eyes turned either up or down in thought. I love the chaotic starts and stops that only reveal their broken pattern once the writing is a whole piece and turned in for review.

There is a hypnotic flow to writing by hand that entrances me, a golden aura that draws me to stare, and when I stare, I feel like the Universe stares back at me from the depths of the ink marks.

I just read your amazing blog and had to comment. I love to write and I also love to watch people write as well. I actually still have pen pals that I write to through snail mail because I love to write so much. The written word is one that so many take for granted. Thanks for posting.

And thanks for reading! I admit, most of my communicative writing is typed these days...my cursive is sloppy and fast, and difficult even for me to read. My manuscript and idea notes, however, are still handwritten in ballpoint cursive on college ruled paper :) Nice to meet you!
