I have a patient who has suffered from extreme bi-polar disorder and accompanying seizures- a very intelligent and emotive person and fellow witch- who recently has decided to turn herself over to metaphysical healing along with her clinical therapeutic regimens. Long story short, I've found a spirit is infecting her... she was born with it. It is the spirit of a shape shifting salamander. Though it can appear as different salamanders, it is always a salamander. I mostly identified its appearance as changing from the black olm to the mud puppy.

Spare me, please dear brothers and sisters, of all the occult salamander mythology if that is all you know on this topic, for I already know it very well. As well as I know the biology of amphibians well, too. But to continue on the specifics of this individual entity...

The spirit is definitely parasitic, but not necessarily demonic, though I'm deciding to approach this case as a sort of possession in a sense. The creature resides between the pineal gland (third eye manifest) deep beneath the brain's cerebral cortex and the cerebellum (reptilian mind) - perfectly rational to my mystic mind when compared to what amphibians, especially salamanders, represent in the evolutionary fold. Also, I get the fire connection... the fire being the patient's "mania". It seems the mania drives the salamander out, like a fire drives the animal from a rotten log thrown on the hearth, and he procedes to extinguish the flames from oozing the mantras of depression from its allegorical skin. I find my patient's mania isn't dangerous or threatening, but rather occurs in very well channeled creativity. (Her clinical therapists agree.) The depressive spells MUST stop, as they are a threat to her very life. The spirit, somehow both melancholy and haughty, identified itself as "the spirit of the smoldering cinder".

SO! Is this anything anybody else has heard of? My spirit guides are not being as helpful as usual on this one, but not from lack of trying. There is a deep cloud of confusion surrounding this infected part of my patient's psyche... a deep fog difficult for my brightest lights to penetrate. I just thought it couldn't hurt to ask around PS here if anyone knew anything that could be similar to any salamander-like demonic spirits before pursuing further invasive, intuitive approaches like an exorcismic crystal light "surgery". It's so much unlike other spiritually parasitic "infections" because this spirit, like the "real life" salamander itself, has uncompromised regenerative powers! I do so appreciate any kind words of advice or insights.

Love and light!

Have to say this and not to be rude or funny - but is it not the fact that a Salamander THRIVES on Fire and therefore would be quite at home with the experience - rather than try to 'Fire-hose' it down??

If a Salamander Spirit is trying to extinguish any form of Flame then maybe the 'Flame' is not a flame at all - but is an illusion created. It may be that in order to understand the issue One may have to realize that on a deeper level - a simple wisdom - "Things are not always as they appear"

>> I find my patient's mania isn't dangerous or threatening, but rather occurs in very well channeled creativity...........The spirit, somehow both melancholy and haughty, identified itself as "the spirit of the smoldering cinder". ..........this spirit, like the "real life" salamander itself, has uncompromised regenerative powers!

Understanding that you know the myths and lore of the Salamander - then you will also know that it is a protector of the Home - in this case the protector ...as you stated >>> resides between the pineal gland (third eye manifest) deep beneath the brain's cerebral cortex and the cerebellum (reptilian mind).

This may be a reference to the aspects of a 'Double' sight/Second Sight or as some have named it "Fire behind the Eyes" .   is the foundational pillar that upholds the Path to second sight.

>>The spirit, somehow both melancholy and haughty -

Can you blame it - born to the Form ...as you stated >> she was born with it< - here is someone who is making choices about its natural existance...and the co-independance that it shares. Would that not be how you or I would feel if someone invaded our dwelling place and made choices about our purpose, our place of being and right to exist??

One must survive with the other - and to destroy that results in what?? and that is maybe where the danger lies....this existance may be a strong form of Elemental numinosum (literally means Occult).

>>> "the spirit of the smoldering cinder".
We understand Spirit - and the smouldering part is a reference to something that lays dormant - and ignites when exposed - so that just leaves Cinder..... charred substance that can burn further but without flame.

In parts of England, the shape of cinders which jumped out of the hearth often foretold a major event - a birth, a death, or the arrival of an important visitor...this Cinder is the shape of the Salamander - relating as stated to the Hearth - Home - a Spiritual meaning of a purification of illusion that will merge back in to the eternal infinite.

In the Norse there is a magical incarntation

"Incendant et me et eum, sint solum incendentes.
“Burning me and burning them, it is simply that which burns everything to cinders.”

In fact the word Cinders is related to Old Norse sindr, Old High German sintar, Old Slavonic sedra.

It is the last word Sedra that provides an interesting aspect - which is in reference to the Sufi 'First Initiation of Fire' - also called 'sedra pushun'..

"(sedra), around which is tied the koshti, a sacred cord that symbolizes the wearer's decision to be bound by the laws of āshā, or the righteous path"..

>>patient's mania isn't dangerous or threatening, but rather occurs in very well channeled creativity.,...and that may be so, for some see the mania as a Spiritual awakening or experience...the problem may lay more in that direction.  There is a form of Yoga known as Hatha Yoga, that has existed since the 15th century, which can put a person back into their own body, gives them center and helps to strengthen their container.
