In case you wanted to see it, my other sons tats..... I dont see anyone with family tattoos. We are an Irish family, our family hails for Dublin and my grandfather was the original immigrant. All the males in our family get this tattoo when they are around 16. Variations are allowed but the basic design is always the same. The theban is unique to our chosen name. I was under the impression this was a common Irish folk religion practice although I dont see many other family examples here. I am surprised. anyone else have a family practice like this?

I just got a new and my first tattoo only a few days ago (this last sunday from a really super good friend of mine, lol and also someone I am seeing now also.

its really pretty and totatlly adore it. lol I even showed it to my mother and she really likes it as well, although I think she likes that I got it for free also. lol I know she is worried I am going to get addicted to this and she might be right. I am already thinking of others I would like to do in the future. Like a small patiete pentagram. I am just also aware the more I get the less easier it will be to hide. And it could interfer with me finding a potential job.

So I will probably be waiting a bit on getting a new one...but I do think it will be something that will probably happen.

just sayin.

I don't have an image of the tattoo on the INTERNET yet. But its right about my crotch area, and its the symbol of the goddess with the kanji for water and fire on the sides of it. I promise to post when I can.

Well, I suggest really thinking about it and picking something that really means something to you.

Don't just stroll into your local shop and pick flash off the wall last minute. Remember, this will be a design you'll live with for your entire life. Even better, look at images on Google.

Not images of other people's tattoos (although they could give you a good idea or two), but pictures that *could* be custom designed into a tattoo. Favorite flower, animal, symbol, birthsign, ect. There are a million and one options out there. It's just finding the one that reaches out and grabs you.

Then go about trying to find an artist to work on you. Go to a shop and look through their portfolio. You will want the one of tattoos they have designed as well as put into skin!!! Also good to look through some of their other art if they have some available. Drawings/paintings and so on.

Don't just look at one artist. Find one that's great in the particular style of tattoo you are looking to get. You want black and gray? Find an awesome black and gray artist. You want cartoon style? Find that kind of artist... Basically find someone you can trust with your skin. Is their shop clean?

Everything disposable/sterile? Ask these questions. They are important! You don't want someone in a sloppy shop giving you a tattoo. Sloppy shop=Sloppy tatt or even an infection.

Underage kids hanging out? If they are, RUN!!! You want a reputable person working on you. Someone who won't get distracted by the tweens hanging out in front.

If you can, find someone who has gotten a tattoo from the artist and ask them about their experience. Sometimes the artist isn't very friendly or sociable, sometimes they will talk your ear off. It all helps with how comfortable they make you feel.

Sorry for the rant, but It's all true. If you want a great tattoo, you want a great experience. I promise You'll get hooked and want more as long as you pick a design that has meaning. Good luck.
