Old Mr. Snake

Snakes have always held facination for, I love to catch them for a moment or two, look into those eys, feel the cool texture and admire the patterns on the skin.

At my dad's place, they have this snake, a gopher snake of some kind, they have this defence or difiance you could say, where they curl up, shake their tail and make a hissing sound that is very like a rattler, one of the boldest snakes I have ever encountered. Their markings are gorgeous, a coppery color, with salmon belly…

EARTH PERSPECTIVES

I live and work in Washington state, I am down in N. California visiting and lending a hand where I can with my family, my dad/step monster ( I call her this in all love and respect, it's kind of an inside joke between us, since she in only a year older than me) have a small farm in the high desert.

I am struck by the beauty here, in a place that to many seems dry, hot and desolate, and it is all of these, but there is so much more here. I see every morning the…

Continue?

In light of the news coverage of the suicide of the young man, in Vancouver, and some things that have been going on in my life, have made me see the shadows in a loved one, and it occures to me, given my own penchant for the shadows, Why do we choose to continue?

I do not fear death and it can be such an easy thing to do, why continue?

Because I am here, I breathe, my heart pumps blood, and this is not my life to end, I am a child of the gods, my life is theirs.

Also…

MY SAMHAIN

SAMHAIN

Samhain for me is a time of remembering, remembering the year past, the trials and hardships I may have experienced and knowing that with Samhain I can close those chapters, because along with the ending of a season a new one opens to me, the glint of a future promised in the seed and the bud.

It is a time of remembering, and saying farewell to those lost, recently or years past.

I remember my mother who passed the veil near 20 years ago, I remember her for what she… Continue

Is in the the Blood?

IS IT IN THE BLOOD?

I wonder, when you dedicate yourself to the old ways, how much the path you take is choice or calling?

Do we make the choice or is it the call of blood and ancestors that directs us?

Of all the Paths we have to choose from, why exactly the one we walk?

I am called to the Celtic and Nordic traditions, the stories, images and Gods speak to me in a familiar and intimate, way that no others do.

I find this interesting since my maternal grandfather was… Continue

Dualities

DUALITIES

I have always, from as far back as I can recall, recognized light and dark, and how we cannot have one without the other, they are siblings that cannot be separated.

I have also always recognized and accept that these aspects exist in all of us, some of us just accept it more readily than others. Understandably, given that our society insists from an early age to deny and suppress the dark in us and only acknowledge or act on the light. Shame, so much can be done with the… Continue

Yesterday I was driving in my truck and saw an eagle land in a cow pasture, it was in the process of skinning a squirrel it had caught. I was awed by the sight, this simple act of living nature, it made me look at my life and think .....................................................
I am really glad I am not a squirrel.
