For those who do not know, Tuatha Dea is family. Were we not a band of rag tag Minstrels we would still be spending the majority of our time together in some such dysfunctional fashion. The bonds of blood, love and common heritage make us more of a tribe than a band.

All families and Clans maintain a hierarchy of sorts whether it be literal or ceremonial and with us the heart and soul of the Tuatha crew is governed by the ladies. While we "Men of Dea" may take the point, steer the helm, man the stations and bellow out instructions like war cries from our perceived Captain's chair, we are aware that it is our strong Women and their Scots-Irish blood that that fuses us to our ancestors, keeps the record true and holds us firm to our Celtic course. They are the real leaders of the clan and they do it with such a grace and ease that it often goes unseen.

When we began working on material for our current Musical project in 2010, we knew we MUST somehow correct this over-site and pay a long over-due tribute to not only our own beloved Lass's but to all the Celtic Women who have kept the  traditions alive and strong for all the Celtic Clans and Tribes now dispersed about the globe. Thus...enter Mavis.

Mavis McGee is a real, living, breathing, loving and beloved member of our family. The name itself is a pseudonym taken on many years ago by my lovely Wife's mother. A balladeer in her own right, Mavis not only passed along the essence of her family's history to her children and grand children but her beautiful singing voice and abilities as well. (her voice in fact graces the song itself and is included in the recording). To her, we owe all our inspiration.

The original composition is presented in lullaby form wherein a daughter of Mavis passes the legacy of the families origin to her own young daughter as she sings her to sleep. A gentle and loving reminder of who she is and from where she comes, setting the stage for the next generation to carry on the tradition and love of a home far away.

Mavis is the "Torch Bearer". That independent ( and in our case, Appalachian) woman who celebrates her Celtic heritage and passes down by word of mouth, not only the history of the Clan but the very essence of the home land in Matriarchal fashion from mother to daughter and so forth and so on ...and thereby to us all.

Our sincere hopes are that this humble effort will in some small fashion honor and celebrate all the "Celtic Women" of past, present and future, from every tribe around the world who keep our stories alive, the families strong and our hearts true. With gratitude and respect, we dedicate "Mavis Mcgee/ Celtic Woman" to you all. -Tuatha Dea

Mavis McGee -Celtic Woman

by Tuatha Dea

Low now. Hold now, and tend to your dreams

The wind blows an echo from beneath the Sidhe

Remember, Remember the mist and the Moor

And clover, all over her emerald shores

I am Celtic Woman - The moon and the mist and the sea

Always a child of the Fey and daughter of Mavis McGee

Oh hear my lullaby or'e Loch and Or'e Brea

My Kith and my Kin lye so far and away

I am Celtic Woman - The moon and the mist and the sea

Always a child of the Fey and daughter of Mavis McGee

My wee Lass. Bonnie Lass. T'is your song I sing

From Mother to Daughter pass this Legacy

I am Celtic Woman - The moon and the mist and the sea

Always a child of the Fey and daughter of Mavis McGee

I am Celtic Woman - The moon and the mist and the sea

Always a child of the Fey and daughter of Mavis McGee

"Mavis McGee -Celtic Woman" is scheduled to be released on Tuatha Dea's new CD in April 2012. Be listening for it's early debut prior to the CD here on Celtic Force Radio in the very near future.
