Pagan Poetry by William Wynne: "Stone Circles"

Stone Circles

A poem by
William Wynne

The thousandth autumn spoke
Of harvest.
And you gathered your soul.

At the campfire
Your eyes danced
And your lips trembled, my beloved.

You waged the battle well,
And fell valiantly,
Away from history,

As Caesar’s hordes
Tumbled your hearth
And sent you to the earth.

The bones of an age
Lie broken upon you now.
Lie back, my beloved.

Lift your face
Beneath the fragrant grasses
And sing me a Celtic Hymn.
