An old post I know but the only one I see on the topic. I had several sims in SecondLife but  that grid is a walled garden where almost everything costs money, so I migrated to running my own public mini grid on OpenSim and run my own dedicated 24/7 server for it from home.

When I had sims in SecondLife I had some Native American Indian role play sims, one day one of our players- a Native kid on a reservation who was about 16 accidentally posted in local chat by accident instead of a private message to someone and we learned he had stage 4 bone cancer :(

After he passed away his step mom came to the sim for the memorial/funeral we had, we had the chief do the ceremony and reading and it was beautiful. I still have the kid's teepee and everything on my sim just where they were like I promised his step mom I'd leave as long as I had the sim.

We also had virtual weddings/handfastings, but this was ten years ago and I don't do the role play any more as there hadnt been any interest by people in years once the tribe that occupied my main sim left.
